New requirements of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure for shipowners' liability policies accepted in Turkish straits and ports

The Directorate General of Maritime Affairs of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has announced new conditions for the requirement of shipowners' liability policies (certificates) accepted in Turkish straits and ports (https://denizcilik.uab.gov.tr/).

Insurance is required to cover liability in case of damage to third parties, the environment or cargo during operation, as well as penalties. Turkish flagged vessels and all vessels of 300 GT displacement and above arriving or departing from Turkish ports are required to have insurance. All vessels in Turkish straits carrying dangerous goods of 300 GT displacement and above, as well as towing vessels, are required to carry insurance

In order for an insurer to be an insurance organization included in the list of credible companies and P&Is whose insurance coverage is accepted in Turkey, the insurer must submit the necessary application to the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure by February 20, 2025. Insurance organizations that meet the conditions will be registered in the system and announced on the website of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure under "List of Insurance Organizations Registered in MTV and LTP.

Currently, Isango OBC is studying the possibility of successfully passing the accreditation procedure as a Shipowners' Liability Insurer at the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey.
